The scholarship I am raising funds for is called the Dreamin’ Demons Scholarship Fund. It will award a series of scholarships to dreamer (undocumented immigrant) students at DePaul University.
Dreamin’ Demons aims to increase awareness and support for immigration reform on DePaul University’s campus, because it is the right thing to do. According to the University’s Vincentian values, we must do all that is in our power to help achieve social justice for all people.
The opportunity to work for the movement was presented to me and I felt a need to do my part in working for social justice for everyone. I felt a particular attachment to this movement because my great grandparents were Mexican immigrants, and though they were documented, I recognize the present struggle to immigrate to this country legally, as well as the horrors documented and undocumented immigrants are trying to escape in order to secure a better life for themselves and their families.
